ACGR Update

ACGR members update for June 2023

June 2023

It’s that time of year when we take time to acknowledge the exceptional work being undertaken in graduate research education across the country through the ACGR Awards for Excellence. Continuing to grow this year has seen our strongest support for the Awards, and we would like to extend our thanks to the 21 universities who made nominations and the 40 exceptional nominees.

We encourage you and your colleagues to register to attend the presentation of this year’s awards which will be held on June 21 at 1.30pm AEST. The presentation will be followed by our second webinar for 2023, led by Professor Louise Sharpe discussing the adaptation of an evidence-based wellbeing program developed for HDR students with HDR students to support student wellbeing.

In this update, we continue to support members as we all come to terms with the implications of the rise of artificial intelligence, and we encourage you to contribute to your institutional responses to the House Standing Committee on Employment, Education and Training inquiry into the use of generative artificial intelligence in the Australian education system, and provide access to the recently compiled suite of TEQSA resources on artificial intelligence.

As we speedily approach the second half of the year we look forward to our continued engagement with you and please keep your eye out in coming updates as we share news of our upcoming events and
initiatives to support members throughout the remainder of 2023.

Best regards

Imelda Whelehan, ACGR President
Tracy Sullivan, Executive Director
