Dear colleagues,
It was wonderful to gather with you all for our National Member Meeting in Hobart last week and to engage in robust conversation and idea sharing regarding graduate research.
The provocations put forward provide much food for thought as we ponder the future of graduate research in a rapidly changing higher education environment. We would particularly like to thank our hosts, the University of Tasmania, and acknowledge the large contingent of New Zealand colleagues who joined us and contributed to our program.
In this month’s update, we bring you access to all the presentations delivered at our National Meeting and we once again thank all those who contributed to the sessions.
We also acknowledge our 2025 ACGR Awards for Excellence winners. The contribution the award winners have made and are making to the graduate research sector in their respective endeavours is remarkable, and we would particularly like to note the significance of 2025 as the inaugural presentation of the ACGR Award for Excellence in Indigenous Excellence and Empowerment. As the awards build from strength to strength each year, we look forward to receiving your nominations for 2026 in the coming months.
If you haven’t already done so, don’t forget to register for our May webinar HDR supervision for neurodivergent students: Developing inclusive and respectful practices. This webinar will be presented by our colleague Professor Charlotte Brownlow, discussing adapting and developing good practice supervision techniques for working with neurodivergent HDR students.
As the sector’s peak body for graduate research, and an inclusive organisation of graduate research experts, we’re committed to ensuring our activities and offerings reflect your needs and interests. As we move ahead planning our suite of webinars and meeting activities for the remainder of the year, we encourage you to reach out with any issues or topics you’re grappling with or would like to discuss with colleagues.
The ACGR community continues to be one of camaraderie, commitment and dedication to the delivery of quality research training. These qualities were on full display during our meeting last week. We look forward to seeing you all face-to-face in 2026, and of course virtually very soon.
Best regards,
Louise Sharpe, ACGR President
Tracy Sullivan, Executive Director
